We are a team of researchers, instructors, students and enthusiasts who seek to develop new technologies through the research and development of "integrated microsystems and nanosystems". These microscopic systems require the next generation of engineering-- we must strive to develop the technology to design, build, test and use devices that are too small to be seen with the naked eye. We call this "Engineering the Microworld". It is an exciting field of endeavor with enormous potential for advancement in many different application areas, including electronics, sensors, industrial mechanics, aerospace, telecommunications, health sciences, materials science, and biotechnology.

Our research program is part of the Henry Samueli School of Engineering at UC-Irvine. We are directly affiliated with the following departments and institutions at UCI.

Henry Samueli School of Engineering
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science
Department of Biomedical Engineering
Integrated Nanosystems Research Facility
California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology, Cal(IT)2

In addition, we collaborate with faculty from all over campus, including faculty from mechanical engineering, civil engineering, physical sciences, biological sciences, physiology, The Collage of Medicine, and The Beckman Laser Institute. We also work with researchers from many different industrial partners--from large established companies to small startups.

Our work is highly interdisciplinary, and it requires us to maintain strong, working collaborations with researchers from different fields of study. We must constantly learn new things, remain open minded about new and different ideas, and maintain a healthy respect for the outstanding advancements made in fields of work outside our own. It is a truly empowering, yet humbling experience!
