The research laboratories of Professors G.-P. Li and Mark Bachman are located in Engineering Gateway within the Henry Samueli School of Engineering at the University of California, Irvine. The research focus is on the technology of integrated microsystems for biomedical and telecom applications.
The Li/Bachman research team is composed of approximately 40 researchers, ranging from professors, postdocs, graduate students, and undergraduates. They are a highly diverse group of talented researchers with backgrounds in electrical engineering, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, materials science, chemistry, biology, and physics.
The research team is currently pursuing research with applications in telecommunications (wireless, optical, high speed circuits), information systems (microelectronics), biomedical devices (BioMEMS), biotechnology (microfluidics), and industrial systems (MEMS, sensors, packaging). Research is supported by major grants and contracts from DARPA, NIH, NSF, UC-SMART, and several industrial partners.
Recent innovations coming from the group include the development of advanced integration methods for micro and nano-scale fabrication in polymers, silicon and metals. We have also devloped the following:
